| Be Still and Know That I Am God |
|
Men travel all over the world in search of what they think they need, and usually return home to find it. I’ve heard it said many times that man often struggles seeing the forest for all the trees that are in the way. Men that strive to disprove the Bible aren’t far removed from these thoughts. Sadly people all over the world spend their time on useless research, wasted hours, attempting to disprove something that is of divine nature. The Bible is the Word of God. Hebrews 11:1 (American Standard Version of 1901) says “Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.” If you actually break that down…that is an awesome verse. The word assurance (or substance in the KJV) is the greek word hupostasis. If you break that word down, you get hupo (under) and stemi (to stand) so what you have is a “standing under”, a structure, or a foundation. In this verse you have a standing under of the things hoped for, the conviction (a full caring, a full assurance of the things to come.) We see here that our faith under-girds our hope. We certainly have hope as Christians. What does hope consist of? Desire + expectation + confidence = Hope (Proverbs 13:12) says, “12Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” Notice that the writer uses hope and desire interchangeably. (Job 31:24) says “If I have made gold my hope, or said to fine gold, ‘You are my confidence’; notice here that the writer uses hope and confidence interchangeably. Proverbs 10:28 “The hope of the righteous is gladness, but the expectation of the wicked perishes.” Notice here that hope and expectation are interchanged. Hope is expected anticipation. Faith is based on evidence. You have evidence on the bottom, faith on that, and faith is under-girding our hope. The point is this, we hope to go to heaven, we desire to go to heaven, we have confidence that we will go to heaven, and we expect to go to heaven. Why? The Christian has hope because we have a faith that is based on evidence. Pretend someone says to you, “Prove to me that there is a God.” Could you do it? Would you do it? First and foremost we know that God exists because he has given us His Word. We know that there are no contradictions in the bible. We have a book written by 40 men over a 1600 year period, and not one contradiction. Some of the men are from different continents and different languages and still no contradictions. All of which in one unique scheme and direction, that being the salvation of man through Jesus Christ by the Glory of God the Father. That is compelling enough in and of itself, for me. If that is not enough for you, reference (Psalm 19:1-4) “ 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world.” Every day, every night, everywhere in the world those stars are in the night and the sun shines in the day. We have mountains, trees, rivers, animals, children all around us and they all scream out “There is a God, and He is alive.” The human body itself proves that God exists. One cell from the human body stretched out would contain 3 billion characters. If I was to sit down and read one character at one second per character, it would take me 96 years to read the description of one person. At 5 months in the womb one million optic nerves travel from your brain to your eye meeting their exact partner. That is one million meeting one million. Mysteriously at 6 months in the womb something cuts that fold of skin over the eye and you have eyelids. This is unexplained by science to this day. (Psalm 139:14) says “I am fearfully and wonderfully made:” Certainly the human body is proof that God exists. One of the strongest arguments to me is morals. Prove that anything is right or wrong without the Bible. Prove to me without the Bible that murder is wrong. You can’t do it. It’s one person’s opinion against another’s. Certainly the laws of the land will put me in jail, but that doesn’t prove that it is wrong. You can’t prove that anything is morally wrong without the Bible. It is the standard for morals. I read a quote once, “All men should strive to learn before they die, what they are running from, and to, and why.” It would serve all men well to turn to the Bible for those answers. Sometimes instead of seeking answers in the wisdom of men, we need to take heed to what (Psalm 46:10) states, “10 Be still, and know that I am God”. What a powerful verse. |
